A gas leak caused when a contractor struck a gas line in Rowlett resulted in the evacuation of a nearby middle school.
Monday afternoon, Rowlett Mayor Blake Margolis said students and staff of Coyle Middle School, 4500 Skyline Dr., were evacuated to a nearby school while workers with Atmos Energy Corp., the utility that distributes gas to most of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, worked to repair the damaged gas line.attributed to a construction crew doing work unrelated to Atmos Energy, according to a statement by Kristin Goodspeed, a spokesperson for the utility.
She did not immediately say when the line was broken or when the leak was contained.The Rowlett Fire Department, which also responded to the leak, did not immediately return a phone call seeking additional information.
