Broadway star Josh Grisetti, known also for his final-season turn in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” has died by suicide, leaving the theater community both blindsided and shocked. He was 44.
Close friends and former co-stars Rob McClure and Sierra Boggess announced his death late Sunday in separate Instagram posts, and his agent Rick Ferrari confirmed it Monday, telling Entertainment Weekly, “on Friday,” wrote McClure, who co-starred as Grisetti’s brother in “Something Rotten!
” both on Broadway and on tour.
“I’m not ready to even attempt to understand. My heart is with his wife and family as they try to deal with the reality of this. ”Sierra Boggess, who starred opposite Josh Grisetti in “It Should Have Been You” on Broadway in 2015, shared the news ““Nothing I can say will make this hurt any less,” Boggess wrote.
“We all loved him so unbelievably much. He created light and thought and humor everywhere he went. ”“He was the man of a thousand faces,” Ferrari told E! News in a statement Monday.
“His students at Cal State Fullertonthat he’d been directing at the Trentino Music Festival in Fiera di Primiero, Italy, just before opening night. In what would be his last Instagram post, he shared photos and a video of the cast holding up a picture of him in a group shot and shouting in unison, “We love you Josh! ”before getting to see the show open, and the cast and team do stuff like this…” Grisetti wrote.
