BAYTOWN — A little more than five hours before Brittany Force would attempt to qualify her Top Fuel dragster, she talked of throwing down a killer number.
“That’s just huge for our team and everyone that was part of tonight,” said Force, winner of the Las Vegas race earlier this month. “The fans are out here, it’s the final race in Houston. To be able to put on a show for them like that is pretty exciting for all of us. That was our target, that’s what we were aiming for, and we were right on it.
“It’s what you want to do, and you hope you can do,” Capps said. “I hit the parachutes, and I was shaking my head. Because I glanced up being at 1,000-foot where we shut off, and you probably shouldn’t be doing this at 330 miles per hour, but if you look up, you can just catch the scoreboard sometimes.Capps didn’t quite reach 386, but the first-year team owner and 2021 Funny Car champion showed he is going to be tough to eliminate this weekend.
“It was real exciting,” Caruso said. “I honestly didn’t know what I ran until I got out of my car, and it felt really smooth. We just wanted an A-to-B run. I wasn’t expecting it to be what it was. Hopefully it holds. Hopefully we can even improve a little.”
