Woman barred from boarding flight because of EU rule - despite it being valid until 2023
Caroline Smith is among those to have been stopped from boarding a flight over her passport issue date. She had booked a ticket with Ryanair from Stansted Airport to Ibiza on April 28. She checked in online, where no issues were raised, but was refused onto flight after arriving at the airport.
Was told it was because her passport was issued 10 years ago in June 2012 - despite not expiring until 2023. Brits flying to Europe must have passport valid for at least three months after they leave their destination. But some EU countries are taking the date ten years on from when a passport was issued as its expiry date. Now there is confusion as Brussels says UK government 'is issuing wrong advice'.
