A Britney Spears biopic movie is in the works from Universal Pictures, with Wicked's Jon M. Chu having been tapped to direct.

. Chu’s filmography as a director includes 2008’s Step Up 2: The Streets, 2010’s Step Up 3D, 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation, 2015’s Jem and the Holograms, 2016’s Now You See Me 2, 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians, and 2021’s In the Heights. Chu is also directing the two-part adaptation of Wicked, which stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Galinda.
