We chat with DeadRingers star Britne Oldford about what it was like to see Rachel Weisz play twins, what she would do if she had an identical twin, and how the PrimeVideo series modernizes David Cronenberg's classic:
How do you take a cult classic about twin gynecologists pushing the boundaries of medical ethics by David Cronenberg, the king of body horror, and update it for the modern era? You hire Rachel Weisz to step into the role originated by Jeremy Irons in Dead Ringers, and make it into a limited series; one that gives the subject at hand ample room to grow and allows Weisz to turn in a bone-chilling performance as twins Beverly and Elliot Mantle.
Britne Oldford: If I found out that I had an identical twin, my first thought is... I'm now seeing them so I would probably be terrified to do that. But now that we're hanging out, I'd probably just want to sit together and stare at each other for a while holding hands and [touching] faces. Like very Hook when Robin Williams and like, “There you are Peter.” It's a very frightening thought, thank you. Okay, we're in Alright, let's do this.
Your character Genevieve, her relationship with the twins — but Beverly in particular — is an interesting one. How would you define their dynamic in your own words?
