🔴 British billionaire Joe Lewis surrenders to US authorities after insider trading charges
The former owner of Tottenham Hotspur is expected to appear in court later today, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan toldFederal prosecutors accussed Mr Lewis on Tuesday of orchestrating a scheme that allegedly saw him pass tips about companies in which he invested to friends, personal assistants, private pilots and romantic partners.
On Wednesday it emerged he had stepped down from his role as owner, with Companies House showing that he ceased to be a person with significant control of the club in October 2022. Lewis is not a beneficiary of the Family Discretionary Trust, according to sources familiar with the situation.ownership rules, a person is disqualified from owning or acting as a director at a club if “they have a conviction imposed by a court of the United Kingdom or a competent court of foreign jurisdiction”.this year, adding fraud as a disqualifying criteria to its list of convictions. Lewis has been charged with 16 counts of securities fraud and three counts of conspiracy.
