Britain only managed to stop a third of infected people coming into the UK, expert reveals
BRITAIN only managed to stop a THIRD of infected people coming into the country and spreading coronavirus, a top expert has revealed.
Professor Ferguson hoped that the number of deaths could be slowed to between 7,000 and 20,000 thanks to the lockdown measures, which started on March 23.meaning people were able to come in with no checks. Professor Ferguson told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show this morning: "What happened in this epidemic is that people flew into this country with infections, seeding the infection"Public Health England, the Health Authorities did their best to intercept such people and isolate them.
Professor Ferguson - who has been helping advise the Government on what measures are needed to tackle the virus - also revealed that HALF of people in intensive care units were now Covid-19 patients.
