The British teenager arrested over a bomb hoax on a packed EasyJet flight to Menorca has apologised for what he called a ‘moment of madness’.
, Aditya, said: ‘It was a moment of madness which I regret and I’m so sorry for the trouble I caused. It was a joke, and I didn’t mean anything by it.
The teenager, a prolific chess player with aspirations of studying economics at Oxford or Cambridge, is now back at home in Orpington, Kent, with parents Anand and Dipti Prasad. Aditya still faces the prospect of a criminal conviction and having to cover the £86,000 cost of scrambling the two fighter jets on top of a £10,000 fine.
After trawling through passenger lists, they spotted Aditya’s name on the flight to Menorca and alerted the authorities in France and Spain to the potential threat coming through their airspace.Once the flight touched down, it taxied to a secluded part of the airfield where sniffer dogs helped search the plane and passengers’ luggage.
