Ratepayers will pick up the tab for a new Brisbane City Council scheme in which some developers will not have to pay for infrastructure when building units.

Reduced infrastructure charges – up to 100 per cent for the providers of community housing – have been adopted by Brisbane City Council to drive down the price of units.

Infrastructure fees for community housing companies, such as the joint Brisbane City Council/Queensland government Brisbane Housing Company, will be completely waived.Schrinner confirmed the scheme on Tuesday morning at the site of a Brisbane Housing Company development in Chermside, where 46 social housing units and 46 affordable housing units will be built by mid-2025.

75 per cent fee reduction for studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments in inner-city high-density areas with an approval since January 1, 2022. This reduction also applies to build- to-rent developments in inner-city areas from September 1, 2023.
