Brighton, N.Y. — The Brighton Central School District's board of education hosted a public meeting Tuesday night to gather community feedback on how to move forward with construction on its massive high school athletic turf fields project. This comes after contaminated soil and potentially hazardous materials were discovered in March at the site of the project, which has been paused. The district is now weighing three different proposals.
The first option would keep the original design but raise the elevation of the fields, which would cost roughly $1 million extra. The second option is a scaled back design that includes a turf field for softball but not soccer, which is about $250,000 extra. The third option is to cover up the site and plant grass. This would be roughly $500,000 cheaper than the original plan.
