Back-to-back District 16-6A champions trying to avoid first-round exit when postseason...

Bridgeland sophomore forward Madeline Bender battles a Shadow Creek defender for the ball during their matchup in the Cougar Bracket at Rhodes Stadium in the I-10 Shootout in Katy on Jan. 14, 2023.This isn’t the first time Bridgeland has flirted with perfection.

Second-year coach Katie Bourgeois and the Bears have had their eyes set on one thing since the 2022-23 season started — the postseason. “Of course, we want to be district champs, but we want to win playoff games, we want to be a team that can make deep runs in playoffs, and we haven’t proven that yet,” Bourgeois said.

Bridgeland’s lone loss this season came in its last preseason tournament when it went 2-1 in the Governor’s Cup in Georgetown. The Bears dropped the opener 2-0 against a Frenship squad that’s ranked No. 7 in the state before beating Plano and Coppell .Bridgeland edged rival Cypress Ranch 1-1 to win the 2023 Waller Classic before sweeping the Mustangs in district play with a pair of 3-0 victories.

Forward and Anaiyah Robinson has set the pace from the get-go with 28 goals in her junior season. The Oklahoma commit might lead the district with 21 goals, but Bourgeois said their true focus is playing well as a team.
