An inquest into the tragic teenager's murder has opened at Cheshire Coroners' Court
The mum of murdered teenager Brianna Ghey said it felt like she was ' grieving two different people' after her daughter's teenage years were 'immersed in darkness'. Brianna, 16, was murdered in an “exceptionally brutal” attack carried out by two teenagers, partly motivated by her transgender identity, in February 2023. Scarlett Jenkinson, described as the “driving force” behind the murder, plotted the attack with co-defendant Eddie Ratcliffe over WhatsApp.
She was advised to cut herself with something clean and once she knew I knew she didn’t hide it. She posted a video of her online and you could see her cut wrists. It was a constant worry about what she would do next. “It was in 2020 that she started dressing as a female and went by the name Brianna. She first came out to her sister and told each other everything.
