is the best safety in the 2023 NFL Draft. A versatile do-it-all defender, Branch wore multiple hats for Nick Saban’s elite Crimson Tide defense. It makes Branch an especially pro-ready prospect. Branch will make an immediate impact as an instant starter and Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate.
Brian Branch: It was a struggle, but life was good. I always had my family around me. We’re a very close-knit family. There are actually a lot of athletes in Fayetteville that get overlooked. I was very aware of that growing up. Brian Branch: I think back to where I came from. Like I said, there have been a lot of talented players that came through Fayetteville at some point. I’ve been competing against those guys since I was young.
Brian Branch: When I first stepped onto the field at Alabama, I remember watching them play the game and having so much respect for how they approached it. The guys you’re talking about, they’re true dogs. They made me better. They made me step my game up. Everybody just came together. The chemistry on that team was incredible. We played as one. That team was special.
The following two seasons, I began to learn the entire defense because I had played every position. It helped me understand everything that was going on around me. I came such a long way from my freshman season. Brian Branch: The nickel position is the new-age coverage linebacker. That’s how I see it. You have to guard those slot receivers who are shiftier today than ever before. You’re basically an every-down linebacker nowadays.
In zone, you can mess around and disguise something. You can trick the quarterback into thinking you’re doing something you’re not. Disguising that zone coverage can really mess with the quarterback. It throws his read off, which allows me to go make a play on the ball.Brian Branch: I’d probably go with Texas A&M during my junior year. The year before that, we lost to Texas A&M. This year was our get-back year . I feel like we played an amazing defensive game.
