Ted Lasso and Roy Kent sitting together and smiling in Ted Lasso season 3
Brett Goldstein is best known for Ted Lasso, but he is now starring in and creating a very different kind of comedy series at Prime Video. Goldstein plays Roy Kent in the hit Apple TV series and is reprising the role in Ted Lasso season 4.
He is also one of the co-creators, writers, and stars of Shrinking, another popular Apple TV comedy, where he plays the character of Louis. Now, Goldstein is the star, co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer of Escorted at Prime Video. The streamer has given a full series order for the eight-episode, half-hour comedy series. Escorted sees Goldstein playing a divorced father living in Manhattan who accidentally becomes a male escort. The story explores the challenges of co-parenting, getting second chances, and questions about whether genuine intimacy can be purchased. Brian Gallivan, who is one of Shrinking's executive producers alongside Goldstein, is the other showrunner. They are joined by The Bear producers Cooper Wehde and Josh Senior, along with Bad Thoughts' Molly Mandel. Warner Bros. Television is the primary studio behind Escorted while Amazon MGM Studios co-produces the project. The collaboration with Prime Video is significant, given Goldstein's multiple high-profile collaborations with Apple TV. While Ted Lasso season 4 is in production, Shrinking season 3 premieres on January 28, continuing another season of the critically acclaimed show starring Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, and Jessica Williams, along with Jeff Daniels and Michael J. Fox joining the cast in the new season. From the content to the overall tone, Escorted promises to be quite different from Ted Lasso and Shrinking, although the revealed plot details tease that it will contain a great deal of heart and hope. In this sense, it may be more similar to Ted Lasso and Shrinking than initially anticipated. Brett Goldstein's roles continue to expand, adding to several other projects of his that are also in the works. He and Jennifer Lopez star in Netflix's upcoming romantic-comedy movie Office Romance, with a script he and Ted Lasso co-creator Joe Kelly wrote. Office Romance's cast also includes Bradley Whitford, Betty Gilpin, Edward James Olmos, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, and Jodie Whittaker. Additionally, Goldstein has At the Sea, a drama film he stars in alongside Amy Adams, Murray Bartlett, Chloe East, Dan Levy, Jenny Slate, and Rainn Wilson that is in post-production. Both in front of and behind the camera, Brett Goldstein continues to be a rising star in movies and television, with Escorted at Prime Video now poised to be another important project in his career.
