’s Dungeon Master. He’s been turning heads on Dropout, prepping a live show at Madison Square Garden and finishing up a live tour in Europe. He opened our interview with his trademark enthusiam about his live show experiences.
“It ruled!” said Mulligan. “We had shows in Glasgow, Machester, London Dublin. It was a dream come true. The thing I was most blown away by fans and people who are supporters of the show, they’ve, like dressed up and have all the stuff.
“It was a completely transformational experience,” said Mulligan. “It was so joyful and fun. I got to have a deep fried Cadbury egg in Glasgow. That’s a Glasgow staple. You can go to a chippy and get a deep fried Cadbury egg. It feels like the most American thing in the world for being a thing happening in chip shops over there.”
In the run up to the UK tour, Dimension 20 broke new ground by announcing a live show taking place at Madison Square Garden.It’s a chance for new fans to check out a modern urban fantasy and for the cast to revisit an old favorite.“I was completely shocked by the demand for that show,” said Mulligan. “It’s made us more dedicated to the fact that we need to do more shows in the US. Nothing is announced yet.
“I played D&D all day Saturday and Sunday for years,” said Mulligan. “Started in Second Edition. Before I was an improviser, before I was a writer at a LARP camp, before I was a teacher at UCB, or a cast member at College Humor, I was DMing for my friends. It’s not incorrect to say that the foundation, creatively, that was provided for me in being given access to this game and access to this method of storytelling, is why I can take care of my family.
