Needing 138 yards to exceed the mark of 2,195 yards set by Andre Golson in 1999, Hall became the new record-holder with just under six minutes left in the third.
JON JOHNSON SLOCOMB – Senior Brendan Hall ran into the Geneva County record books during a 62-38 win over Slocomb on Thursday night, breaking the single-season rushing record set by his father 25 years ago.
But while sitting on the bench after the game, Hall smiled as he talked about his goal of breaking the record once held by his father. First-year Geneva County coach Al Gilmore heaped the praise on Hall, who gave an emotional speech of thanks to his teammates before leaving the field. Slocomb would bounce right back and get on the board when Hayes Hatton scored on a 27-yard run on the RedTops first possession. The try for two failed.
Slocomb then answered with a touchdown drive capped by a 1-yard run by quarterback Cade Birge and Brody Keel ran in the 2-point conversion to pull the RedTops within 32-14 with just 51 seconds remaining until halftime.
