TORONTO, June 13 ― New research has found that breastfeeding can have a protective effect against infants becoming obese as teenagers, even if they have a genetic predisposition for the condition. Breastfeeding has already been linked to many health benefits for both mothers and babies, including a lower risk of stroke, ovarian cancer, high blood pressure and heart disease for mothers, a lower risk of eczema, food allergies and diabetes for children, and a lower risk of weight gain for both mom and baby. However, the researchers point out that the reasons behind these benefits of breastfeeding are still not clear.
