TUCSON, Ariz. — The American Cancer Society estimates 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
“I was like, this isn't real.... you must have made a mistake. This can't be happening," said Runyon."I was in complete shock, I'm too young to have cancer. This can't be happening to me and happens to other people.” After a two year battle, that seemed like a lifetime of leaning on friends, family, and local organizations, Runyon was cancer free. One of the organizations that supported her emotionally and physically was Tucson Cancer Conquerors; a non-profit that focuses on exercise, nutrition, education and wellness for cancer survivors.
