Crystal meth worth R236 million seized at OR Tambo Airport
Customs officials seized drugs worth R236 million at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Sunday.“The consignment, which was declared as Multi-Purpose Anti-Slip Mat, was upon physical inspection, found to have been used to conceal crystal meth weighing 785 kg with the street value of R236 million,” SARS said in a statement.
"A female patient was extricated from the light motor vehicle and transported to Kalafong Hospital in a critical condition, while a male patient from the same vehicle was transported with minor to moderate injuries." Police spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Captain Gerda Swart, said allegations were that the couple had argued at their home in the early hours of Saturday.
The highway was closed for more than ten hours after a 34-year-old truck driver travelling on the N2 Horseshoe Bend from Grabouw to Cape Town was killed when he lost control of his vehicle.Western Cape Transport spokesperson, Jandré Bakker said while the highway is open, lane closures are still in place.
