BREAKING! Manchester United have now officially confirmed their first signing of the new year. ✍ More here! ▶
United had taken Newcastle United's Martin Dubravka on loan at the start of the campaign, but he was recalled to the Tyneside club earlier this month after making just two appearances for the Manchester club.
Butland was reportedly one of the goalkeepers the Red Devils had looked at ahead of this season prior to choosing to take on Dubravka., United also considered recalling Dean Henderson from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but ultimately decided against doing so. Butland has six months left on his contract with the Eagles, but the London club does have the option to extend his deal by a further year.
He will be the Red Devils' second-choice goalkeeper behind current No. 1 David de Gea for the rest of the season.
