The Yankees have some big decisions to make this winter as they construct the roster they'll use to try and make it back to the playoffs in 2024.
The Yankees acquired Middleton from the White Sox at the trade deadline, the only mid-season acquisition that impacted the big-league roster. Middleton was tremendous in a small sample in pinstripes, giving up only one earned run in 13 1/3 innings after the deadline deal. He’s currently on the injured list with shoulder inflammation. If Middleton doesn’t cost too much on the open market, don’t be surprised if the Yankees bring the 30-year-old back for a full season in 2024.
Trivino is also working back from Tommy John surgery, but he won’t be ready to pitch until some point during the 2024 campaign. He underwent surgery in May. The right-hander is also a 2022 trade deadline acquisition, part of the Montas deal. Next season is Trivino’s final year before entering free agency.Gil is even further along in his recovery from Tommy John surgery than those two arms, pitching in two rehab games with Class-A Tampa earlier this month.
