By Gerry Ahern FrontPageBets Week 5 of the USFL provides a marquee matchup between a pair of 3-1 squads, the New Orleans Breakers and the New Jersey Generals. The Breakers, second in the South Division, are coming off a 23-15 win over the Houston Gamblers in Week 4.

The Generals, first in the North, won their third straight last week, knocking off the Pittsburgh Maulers, 21-13. In other games, the Birmingham Stallions remained unbeaten, moving to 4-0 with a 16-10 win over the Tampa Bay Bandits. And the Philadelphia Stars edged the Michigan Panthers, 26-25. People are also reading… Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala., again plays host to four games this weekend.Michigan Panthers vs. Tampa Bay BanditsMoney line: Tampa Bay -140; Michigan +120Breakdown: Panthers quarterback Shea Patterson struggled against the Stars, completing 9 of 17 passes for just 67 yards with three interceptions and a touchdown. He fared better running the ball, carrying nine times for 79 yards and a score. Running back Reggie Corbin was the standout, piling up 152 yards on 12 rushes with a touchdown. ... The Bandits mustered just 158 yards total offense in falling to the Stallions. Quarterback Jordan Ta'amu managed to throw for 125 yards and a touchdown to Rashard Davis. Ta'amu was the leading rusher as well with 34 yards.TV: FoxOver/Under: 37 Breakdown: The Breakers rallied past the Gamblers behind quarterback Kyle Sloter, who had an up-and-down day. He completed 27 of 43 passes for 414 yards and a touchdown. But he was intercepted three times. Taywan Taylor and Jonathan Adams each eclipsed 100 yards receiving. ... The Generals stayed hot against the struggling Maulers. QBs Luis Perez and De'Andre Johnson shared duties, combining for 200 yards passing. Johnson tossed the lone touchdown to Alonzo Moore. Moore had 104 yards receiving on three catches.TV: NBCOver/Under: 36.5 Breakdown: The Stallions kept on rolling against the Bandits, pounding the ball on the ground. CJ Marable ran 17 times for 55 yards. QB Alex McGough carried nine times for 39 yards and a TD. He completed 14 of 26 passes for 126 yards, Tony Brooks-James tacked on 32 yards rushing. ... The Stars had just enough to hold off the Panthers. QB Case Cookus connected on 22 of 30 passes for 190 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception. Top targets were Devin Gray and Diondre Overton .TV: FoxBreakdown: The winless Maulers turned to Kyle Lauletta at quarterback against the Generals. He completed 15 of 32 passes for 169 yards without finding the end zone. Receiver Tre Walker was the most effective weapon, catching nine passes for 110 yards. Running back Garrett Groshek had Pittsburgh's lone score. He carried 14 times for 36 yards. ... The Gamblers' defense kept them in the game against the Breakers, forcing four turnovers .
