We won’t know until Sunday night.The league announced Saturday evening that it had rescinded the technical foul the Mavericks’ superstar received for complaining to officials at the end of the first quarter Friday about what he thought was a missed shooting foul.Rather than serving an automatic one-game suspension Sunday night for Tech No. 16, Doncic will be available to play in the Mavericks’ regular-season finale against the San Antonio Spurs.
These three games over the next two nights will decide whether Dallas starts its third Luka Doncic-led playoff run as the Western Conference’s third or fourth seed:Mavericks vs. Spurs, 8:30 p.m. SundayThanks to a 3-1 regular-season series record, the fourth-place Mavericks hold the head-to-head playoff tiebreaker over third-place Golden State if they finish with the same record.
If the Mavericks beat the Spurs in the regular-season finale, they’ll finish as the No. 3 seed if Golden State loses one of the final two games. If the Mavericks lose to San Antonio, they will reach the No. 3 seed only with two Warriors losses. Dallas can finish no lower than fourth, so the team will play either the Utah Jazz or Denver Nuggets in the first round. Utah holds the head-to-head tiebreaker.
The Jazz will finish fifth if they beat the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night. The Nuggets will overtake them for fifth only if they beat the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night and the Jazz lose to Portland.
