– The family of John Mendoza Jr. , the 18-year-old Texas State student shot and killed by former Brazoria County Deputy Kevin Tippit on June 1, is still looking for answers, and their attorney claims the county is trying to keep them in the dark.

Attorney Charles Adams said in a statement a scheduled meeting with Sheriff Bo Stallman, in which he was hoping for an investigation update and for John Mendoza Sr. to see video of the incident, was cancelled at the last minute after the county hired outside legal counsel, who then told Adams all communication must go through them, and offered nothing to the grieving family except a vague “the Texas Rangers are handling it. ” The outside attorney, Norman Giles, confirmed to KPRC 2 News he’s representing the county in the case, and said, “Brazoria County is cooperating fully with the Ranger investigation, including the County not prematurely releasing any information that could adversely impact the investigation.

” Earlier this week, Brazoria County didn’t release body and dash cam video as requested by KPRC 2 News and other media outlets, but instead asked the Texas Attorney General’s Office for a ruling. Adams says Brazoria County is “spending tax dollars fighting transparency instead of building a case against a murderer.

” He remains firm in his belief that Deputy Tippit intentionally shot John Jr., saying witness accounts and private camera footage show the teen gave the deputy no justification to use any force whatsoever.
