The victory gives Brawley (8-1, 3-0 IVL) sole possession of first place in its league
IMPERIAL — Exploding for 24 unanswered third-quarter points, the Brawley Union High School football team defeated Imperial 49-28 on Friday in an Imperial Valley League game at Shimamoto-Simpson Stadium.
After falling behind 7-0 to Imperial as the Tigers scored on their opening possession as Brawley deferred the opening kick-off, the first play when the Wildcats took possession was a jet-sweep by senior Sergio Garcia that netted 22 yards. Imperial High School linebacker Darian Romo tackles Brawley’s Matthew Moreno during Friday’s game.
“We adjusted to their alignments at half time and we lacked intensity and communication in the first half but we came back with that in the second half,” Garcia said. “I’ve been playing defensive back but tonight I went back to my old position as an edge-rusher,” Gutierrez said. “It feels like my natural position and playing it is second nature for me.”
