A second quarter brawl in Brundidge led to a Pike County forfeit loss to Headland Friday night in a game that turned chaotic quickly.
With Headland leading 20-0 and Pike County facing a third down from its own 27, a short pass across the middle was caught. Headland’s Caleb Dozier pursued the play and knocked the receiver to the ground with a hard hit. Players for both teams exchanged words after the hit, resulting in multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
As officials tried to sort out the penalties, it appears the receiver collapsed on the sideline. As personnel rushed to get the attention of the attending ambulance, other personnel picked up the receiver and sprinted across the field toward the ambulance. After a moment, Headland’s team returned to the locker room while the player was being tended to on the field.
Headland’s team returned to the locker room again. Minutes later, Pike County coaches sent their team to the locker room as well.
