Twenty-one-year-old Brandi Hanowell was found shot and killed alongside her live-in boyfriend Loran Gavel inside their apartment on Jan. 7, 1997.BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The family of Brandi Marie Hanowell, a young woman who was shot and killed in Whatcom County nearly 27 years ago, is hopeful that new attention on her case may uncover new leads.
Lt. Claudia Murphy was one of the responding officers in 1997. She’s still with the Bellingham Police Department and serves as the public information officer. “It’s almost a feeling of defeat because we’re sitting here stuck in this mire or whatever of not knowing, not knowing what happened, who did it, but knowing that there is someone out there who does know all this stuff,” Kermit added.
