Brady Quinn joined the Throwbacks Podcast and explained why he has been so pleased with the expanded playoff format in college football.
Entering the 2024 College Football season, a sense of uncertainty, perhaps even skepticism, existed over the expanded playoff format. Would the leap from 4 teams to 12 teams diminish the value of the regular season? Would teams of too little quality be allowed to take part in the sport’s postseason tournament? Would the jeopardy of a defeat be sucked right out of the game?
Now, as the regular season reaches its climax and the expanded playoff prepares to make its debut, opinions of the new format are beginning to crystallize. Legendary“I think some people were concerned that if you expanded the playoff, it would allow teams to lose more games, and so it wouldn't be as intriguing. But it's had the exact opposite effect now.”
Quinn contends that the involvement of more teams has boosted interest in the regular season. The continuously evolving playoff picture along with increased debate over postseason credentials has added a layer of enjoyment in the game that may have been missing in previous seasons.team that doesn't go to the championship... And then how that would factor out.
