Brad Simpson repeatedly invokes Fifth Amendment in hearing on children's custody
on murder charges in the death of his wife, Suzanne Simpson. On Monday, he appeared via Zoom for a status hearing regarding the custody of his two youngest children. Suzanne has been missing for two months, and law enforcement officials do not believe she is alive.
Her DNA waslast week. Indictment documents allege that Brad tried to hide that saw from investigators. Brad has been in the Bexar County Jail since he was arrested back in October, held on a $3 million bond. This hearing was held to check in on how they're doing in their new living situation with an aunt and uncle.Meredith Chacon questioned Brad directly: "Mr. Simpson, do you have any idea where Suzanne might be?" In response to that question and each that followed, Brad's attorney asked that his client invoke the Fifth Amendment right to remain silent. He was also asked about his comments at the last custody hearing when he said Suzanne may have gone to Austin with sorority sisters. Child Protective Services caseworkers reported to the judge that the children are doing well and attending therapy. A court-appointed advocate noted that the older child has expressed a desire to have contact with his father, a request he also made in October. Simpson's attorney has previously sought visitation privileges for him, but these have not been granted. The judge decided that the children would remain in their current placement and reminded Simpson that he could face termination of his parental rights. The next hearing is scheduled for April 8, where updates on the children's situation and Suzanne's whereabouts will be discussed, and the case will be set for trial.
