A Brad Pitt classic is back and ready to remind fans of the rules as it scores a new theatrical release. Based on Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name, Fight Club starred Pitt as anarchist Tyler Durden, who befriends Edward Norton's troubled everyman Narrator and eventually forms the underground group.

As they grow closer and The Narrator becomes a more confident figure, Tyler begins developing a cult-like following from the club's members, and enacting extremist plans as part of his anti-consumerist ideals. Now, nearly 27 years after its first release, 20th Century Studios has announced that Fight Club will be getting its third theatrical release in the United States. The controversial thriller will be back in theaters for one night on April 22, complete with a 4K upgrade. In addition to its theatrical re-release, the film is also bringing its updated format to home media with a 4K Ultra-HD steelbook and digital release on May 12, while New Regency and Insight Editions are releasing a companion book with never-before-seen visuals, exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes content. Also starring Helena Bonham Carter, Meat Loaf and Jared Leto, Fight Club sparked intense controversy both in the lead up to and upon its release. Fox struggled with determining the best way to market the film, while critics were divided on its story and themes, all contributing to its underwhelming box office. The movie has also seen numerous reports of real-life fight clubs being formed throughout the years, while others have reportedly been influenced by Durden's extremist actions and sought to carry out their own. Despite its controversies, Fight Club still went on to become a cult classic through its home media run, and even started to grow with critics as its explorations of toxic masculinity, anti-consumerism and Generation X's broad angst. Its twist ending has also been hailed as one of the best of all-time, inspiring countless other titles. With its new 4K release, Fight Club finds itself with its third United States theatrical run, having debuted domestically at the CMJ Film Festival before its October 1999 run, and later returning at 2024's San Francisco Independent Film Festival. However, it has seen more extensive big-screen outings internationally since it first came out, being re-released in France, Russia and Finland multiple times, among other countries. Fight Club's new theatrical release also comes at a unique time for Pitt as he and Fincher's long-awaited reunion for The Adventures of Cliff Booth is releasing later this year. Their 1999 thriller was the second of their collaborations together, having first teamed for the similarly iconic Se7en and later coming back together for the 2008 adaptation of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Their next film sees Fincher taking over the directorial reins from Quentin Tarantino, as the film expands the world of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Posts Given it sparked so much controversy upon its original release, it will be interesting to see how the new Fight Club theatrical release is received. With it only being a one-night run, it doesn't seem like it will ignite at the box office, though with it already having a passionate fan base, and its only real competition being Lee Cronin's The Mummy, it could find a new audience nearly three decades later. 72 8.8/10 9/10 Fight Club 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed R Drama Release Date October 15, 1999 Runtime 139 minutes Director David Fincher Writers Chuck Palahniuk, Jim Uhls Producers Art Linson, Ceán Chaffin Cast See All Main Genre Drama Executive Producer Arnon Milchan Budget $63 million Studio 20th Century Distributor 20th Century Powered by Expand Collapse
