Damien Chazelle is taking audiences back in time to the Jazz Age and its influence on the film industry with the Babylon movie trailer. The La La Land director has assembled another star-studded cast for his latest film, some of whom include Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Tobey Maguire, Samara Weaving, Olivia Wilde, Spike Jonze, Jean Smart, Max Minghella, Katherine Waterston and Flea.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Development on Babylon was first announced in 2019 with Chazelle originally expected to reunite with Lionsgate and Emma Stone, both of whom he worked with on La La Land, though Paramount would ultimately swoop in and land the rights to the projects. Casting would begin a few months later with Pitt, who was in talks when Lionsgate was still eyeing the project, confirmed to star and Robbie replacing Stone due to scheduling conflicts.
Though First Man was generally considered a modest success, the official Babylon trailer is sure to feel like a return to Chazelle's roots for fans of the Oscar winner. Much like Whiplash and La La Land before it, the film looks to be giving audiences a behind-the-scenes look at a very real time and industry and exploring the emotional weight each have for the characters caught in the middle of them.
Interestingly, Babylon marks both Pitt and Robbie's latest step back to a past Hollywood era after Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, for which the former earned his first acting Oscar as stunt double Cliff Booth.
