But with 12 laps to go, Binder got it wrong into Turn 8, sending him out of the race. The Red Bull KTM rider looked groggy when he got up from the gravel, and was taken to the on-site medical centre as a precaution. With Binder crashing out, Johann Zarco inherited third place. Binder and Zarco battled for fifth place during Saturday's sprint race, with the Pramac rider getting the better of the South African, relegating SA's star rider to sixth.

Coming into the race, Binder was fourth in the 2023 MotoGP championship, but a pointless outing in Germany saw him lose the position to Zarco.
