Boerne rides hot start, stiff defense to regional quarterfinal win vs. La Vernia
Ronald Cortes / ContribuitorBoerne’s boys basketball team used stifling defense and an early barrage of offense to dismantle La Vernia 50-26 on Tuesday night in a Region IV-4A quarterfinal at Judson.
The Greyhounds — who have won 22 straight games and last lost on Dec. 9 against Pflugerville Weiss — Somerset regional semifinals on Friday at Texas A&M-Kingsville. “The key when you play a zone defense like we do is to get off to a fast start,” McHone said. “If you don’t, then the other team can pull the ball out and make you have to do things on defense that you’d rather not. But made some 3-pointers and we ran some sets that got some people open and we got the lead and took off with it.”
