“I just want everybody to try to get into the habit of being givers.'
It seems like that’s what the holiday season was all about. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day, no matter what holidays you observed, it seemed people were kinder, gentler and more focused on sharing “a cup of cheer” and spreading “goodwill toward men.”
Patricia and Randall Germany, founders of Impact4Life helped me remember. So did Shanel Poole, founder of G.L.A.M. I received another reminder during a journalism workshop a couple of Saturdays ago. Bryan Lomax, owner of Lomax Professional Barber and Beauty, attended a panel discussion to help business owners and nonprofit leaders sharpen their interviewing skills. He participated in a mock interview and that’s when I knew he had a story worth sharing, a story that embodies the holiday season.
“It’s a way to give back to little me,” Lomax said. “To me, this is the season of giving. It makes me happy. I would rather give than receive at this time of year. It feels like I made a difference in somebody’s life. That’s the start to building up happier families, better communities if we start to give.”
“I grew up as a product of a single parent home,” Lomax said. “I saw how stressful it was for my mom at this time of year. I want to make it easy for the single parents — give them one less thing to stress .”
