UNDATED - A boycott of Bud Light continues to impact the sales of beermaker Anheuser-Busch InBev a year after its controversial collaboration with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney .the company's United States revenue declined by 9.1% in the first quarter of the year. Per the outlet, Anheuser-Busch also reported that sales to retailers had declined almost 14% "primarily due to the volume decline of Bud Light .
The campaign was aimed at celebrating diversity and inclusion, but unexpectedly triggered controversy among Bud Light customers, who chose to spend their money elsewhere in protest of the company's decision. Per Newsweek, AB InBev's performance has remained strong despite the boycott, with the company reporting an overall revenue increase of 2.6%, which was linked to a 15.5% rise in Corona sales outside of Mexico. The company also saw a sales volume increase in Mexico and Europe, which was attributed to an earlier Easter.
Citing its diverse product portfolio, AB InBev reported a profit of $1.51 billion, an increase from the $1.31 billion it earned in the same period last year, per Newsweek. "The strength of the beer category, our diversified global footprint and the continued momentum of our megabrands delivered another quarter of broad-based top- and bottom-line growth," CEO Michel Doukeris said, according to the outlet. "We are encouraged by our results to start the year, and the consistent execution by our teams and partners reinforces our confidence in delivering on our 2024 growth ambitions.
