“The kid did everything right. The problem is he put his feet down on the ground. That’s what actually got stuck,” Scott Grahn, manager of the rescue team, said toWhile teams led the effort to save the child, a line system was also established to get 14 other kids back to shore. They were ferried one by one to safety.
Once the other kids were safe, the team combined its effort to rescue the boy trapped underwater. They were able to recover the body by using the line system and a boat to fight against the current in an area of about 10 inches of water, according to reports. Unfortunately, due to the remote location and lack of cell service in the area, the boy had been underwater for at least 20-30 minutes already and had drowned.“They did have jackets on. It’s just a freak thing that happened,” Grahn said toWhile the Somerset County coroner’s office is investigating the death, the identity and age of the victim have not yet been released.
