A South Australian boy has been charged with possessing extremist material, allegedly including a bomb-making manual. Counter-terrorism detectives arrested the 14-year-old boy from Adelaide on Thursday. An investigation allegedly found him in possession of explosive instructions, information for terrorist acts and extremist material. The Adelaide Youth Court heard on Friday the boy accessed the material on school computers.

The magistrate will consider whether to release the 14-year-old on home detention bail. Until then, he remains in custody, with his next bail hearing expected in August The possessing explosive instructions or extremist material is an offence in South Australia. “Material that directly or indirectly encourages, glorifies, promotes or condones terrorist acts; or seeks support for, or justifies the carrying out of terrorist acts is considered to be extremist material,” police said.
