Solon police are attempting to identify a man who allegedly menaced another driver by walking up to the victim's car while holding a box cutter.
At 11:10 a.m. Feb. 7, a Solon woman, 41, called police asking that officers intervene in an argument she was having with her son. The woman told officers that she had attempted to restrict his video game privileges, which resulted in the boy being physical towards her.
Officers spoke to both parties and decided to take the 17-year-old to his grandmother’s home while waiting for admission into a diversion program.At 4:55 p.m. Feb. 1, a Hudson man, 24, reported that he had been threatened by another driver. He said that when he was leaving the parking lot at Advance Auto Parts, 33313 Aurora Road, a silver Mazda SUV stopped in front of him at the stop sign. The victim reportedly drove around the SUV. The Mazda driver then passed the victim, stopped, got out of the vehicle, and walked up to the victim’s car carrying a box cutter. The sunglass-wearing suspect reportedly struck the side of the victim’s car with the box cutter, causing paint damage. The suspect then drove away as the victim called police to report the incident.At 5:05 p.m. Feb. 3, a 53-year-old Solon woman reported that she was the victim of an online scam. She told police that she was selling an item, not named in the report, by using the app Nextdoor.The buyer told the woman that he sent the money via Venmo. The victim next received a text message from an unknown phone number that appeared to be a notification from Venmo, but wasn’t, stating that the transaction did not go through because the buyer has a business account and she has a personal account. The suspect, through text messages, then informed her that he just sent another $500 in order to make the switch to a personal account. He asked for her to send back the $500 via the app Zelle, while he kept the original $400. The victim sent the money. The suspect then asked for another $500 because the first transaction didn’t go through. The woman then realized her mistake and stopped interacting with the suspect. She reported the incident to her bank, which required a police report before it would consider reimbursing her. She received an additional text from fake Venmo stating that she would be turned over to law enforcement if she didn’t complete the transaction.At 2:30 p.m. Feb. 4, a Solon man, 67, reported that he received from Uber two IRS 1099 tax forms. The forms showed that he supposedly generated more than $36,000 in income in 2025. The victim, however, has never worked for Uber. He reported the suspicious activity to the IRS. It appeared to police as though someone had earned money using the man’s identifying information.
