Massachusetts State Police on Friday activated an Amber Alert for a child who was inside a car that was stolen in Chicopee.
Fri, March 29th 2024 at 8:31 AMMassachusetts State Police said Friday that a 3-year-old boy who was sitting in a car reported stolen in Chicopee was found unharmed at a hotel in Windsor, Connecticut.Police also said the man accused of stealing the car was found at a gym.
"Investigation indicates he dropped the child off at the Rodeway Inn and then drove to the shopping plaza where he left the car," state police said on X. "Hotel employees contacted police." State police said Vadim Vorobyov, 52, of Springfield, Massachusetts will be charged with kidnapping, child endangerment, and fugitive from justice in Connecticut. They said he's also expected to be charged with kidnapping, child endangerment, and motor vehicle larceny in Massachusetts.
An Amber Alert was activated at about 10:30 a.m. for the boy, who was in a Toyota Camry that was reported stolen in Chicopee. Police said Vorobyov came across the car parked outside a house on Exchange Street with the motor running and the child in the backseat.The car was found abandoned at a shopping plaza in Windsor. Vorobyov was found at one of the businesses, an Anytime Fitness.
