Shaker Heights police tracked down in Cleveland a boy who tried to steal a car and took a shot at officers while running.SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- A teen’s attempt to steal a car did not end as he had planned as the boy was eventually tracked down and arrested at a Cleveland garage.
At about 10:40 p.m. Monday Shaker Heights police officers were dispatched on a report of a male suspect attempting to steal a Kia vehicle in theOfficers located the 17-year-old suspect and attempted to detain him. The boy, however, ran and, while doing so, fired a shot at officers. The officers were uninjured. Shortly after, police tracked the suspect to the 2000 block of East 126th Street in Cleveland. The boy, it was found, was hiding atop a home’s garage after failing to break into a residence. Shaker Heights police notified Cleveland police, who sealed off the area and deployed negotiators and tactical resources. Several hours later, at about 3:40 a.m., officers took the Cleveland resident into custody and recovered his gun. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
