A 16-year-old boy has been charged on suspicion of possession of a knife after patrols were stepped up in a Manchester city centre park.
Police said the boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was allegedly found with a knife in Whitworth Park. He will appear at court today and has been remanded into custody. Another knife was found in the park during a search, as patrols were stepped up to tackle anti-social behaviour, knife point robberies and assaults in the area.In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "A teenager has been charged with possession of a bladed article after targeted patrols in Whitworth Park in Manchester.
"Officers from several Greater Manchester Police teams – including the City of Manchester Central Neighbourhood Crime Team, the District Tasking Team, Greenheys and Longsight neighbourhood officers and TAU – carried out patrols to tackle anti-social behaviour, including knifepoint robberies and assault in the area.
"A 16-year-old boy was found in possession of a knife and will appear in court today after being remanded into custody, while a second knife was found during a search of the park."Read more of today's top stories here
