Brian “Bomac” McIntyre, who trains British boxer Chris Eubank Jr., was arrested at Manchester Airport on Sunday after officials found a gun in his checked luggage, according to multiple reports.The trainer planned to get on his flight Sunday morning after Eubank’s victory over Liam Smith in a middleweight bout Saturday night.
“After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized. Subsequently, a 53-year-old man was arrested for possession of a firearm and was taken to custody for further questioning.” McIntyre faces two charges: possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.Eubank got revenge on Liam Smith after being defeated last time they fought.The trainer is a former boxer from the U.S., and he also trains American star Terence Crawford, who won the welterweight title against Errol Spence Jr. in July.
As for Eubank, his fight against Smith on Saturday was his first with McIntyre as his trainer, and he got revenge on Smith, who won their first bout in January.. “There were a lot of things to prove. People saying I’m shot. People saying I don’t have it anymore. I’m too old. Chin, punch resistance is gone, all these things I’m seeing and I had to live with that for six months knowing that it wasn’t true.
“That was tough. This is the first time I’ve ever been in a rematch before. Like I said I enjoy new challenges — I rise to the occasion when I have to.”
