And, yes, you can absolutely make the case that had, amid strong reviews and strong “want to see” variables, opened in non-Covid world in March of 2020 it might have nabbed $70-$75 million over its Fri-Sun debut. While even $62 million would be a standard “good” 25% jump, and 50% is huge even for an MCU sequel , the film was quite leggy and so beloved that there was hope that it might sneak into the Oscar race that year.
Does that mean every major summer release can expect “business as usual” business? Not necessarily. Consumers may still be picky especially when many titles are available on PVOD or streaming earlier than usual. So
