‘Quiet Place 2’ nabs the biggest non-opening Wednesday since New Year’s Day 2020
So, yeah, having double-checked the first Wednesdays forscored a bigger non-opening-day Wednesday gross than any movie released thus far in 2021 and any movie released at all in 2020. And needless to say, a 9% drop from Tuesday to Wednesday after Memorial Day is not par for the course. Evendropped 29% for a $4 million day-six gross after a $79 million Fri-Mon Memorial Day weekend debut back in 2012.
That said, strong weekday business can sometimes lead to sharper weekend drops, as more of the post-debut demand is made up over the first few weekdays. I will again note at howdropped 67% after its $16.4 million debut over Christmas, as the folks who wanted to see it in theaters seemingly did so. But then I’ll remind you how the film stuck around and pulled a decent 2.8x multiplier.
