Boulder County Sheriff’s deputies are negotiating with an armed man who barricaded himself in a car on Flagstaff Road after firing a weapon this morning.

According to BCSO spokesman Vinnie Montez, deputies have contained the man in the 2100 block of Flagstaff Road. There is a hard closure of both lanes of traffic at the base of Flagstaff Mountain through the 2200 block of Flagstaff Road, according to Montez. All trails on Flagstaff Mountain are closed.

Montez said it is unknown if the man is suicidal but that he is talking with deputies. Montez said the man is contained and deputies are focused on keeping him isolated to the area. Along with deputies, Open Space and Mountain Parks officials and Boulder police are on the scene.Montez said for those trying to access Flagstaff Road west of the incident, the best route is to use Colo. 72 to Gross Dam Road. Montez said Gross Dam Road reportedly will be closed at 3:30 p.m.
