Photos: Cleveland Botanical Garden's 'Twinkle in the 216' holiday display celebrates Cleveland neighborhoods
, aims to pay tribute to Cleveland’s many diverse neighborhoods. The display, which opens tomorrow and continues through Dec. 31, features postcard vignettes of iconic Cleveland landmarks and a 20-foot-tall “living” tree built from live and dried plant materials. In addition, the Madagascar and Costa Rica Glasshouses will feature special horticultural displays and lights.
“Holidays are about coming together — as family, as friends, as a community,” says Ryan Sandy, exhibitions manager, in a press release. “This year’s winter show at the Cleveland Botanical Garden will celebrate Cleveland neighborhoods by featuring vignettes of iconic local architecture as well as holiday favorites such as handmade gingerbread houses, lighted outdoor trails, festive horticultural displays and decorated trees.
The exhibit also features trees decorated by 38 Affiliate Garden Clubs from Northeast Ohio and candy-coated gingerbread houses assembled by bakers from across the community. On weekends during the exhibit and every day between Dec. 20 and Dec. 31, outdoor activities will include hot cocoa story time, marshmallow roasting and community crafts.
Next month, the Botanical Garden hosts Krampus Night on Dec. 3, a breakfast with Santa on Dec. 11 and Dec. 18, and Twinkle in the 216 — Together Time on Dec. 22.
