Maximum hackney carriage fares are likely to rise in Boston amid worries over whether passengers can afford it.
Drivers would also have the option to bump prices up as the cost of diesel rises, with an extra 40p added onto each journey at current prices.Boston’s cabinet has recommended a new price structure to Boston Hackney Carriage Association, who will now have their say on whether they are happy. “Hopefully this will be fair to both drivers and passengers. If people feel like prices are too high, they will vote with their feet,” he said.“These fares haven’t been reviewed since 2018, in which time petrol prices have gone up significantly.“Boston’s fares may be a tad more expensive than other districts, but they are due to review them and will probably be in line soon.
He said he expected cabinet to discuss it again in the coming months once the BHCA had reviewed it, adding: “Let’s hope petrol prices have gone down by then.”
