Members of the Boston City Council unanimously voted Wednesday to uphold the city’s sanctuary status ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s second term.
Boston City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune and the Cass Recreational Complex in Boston, which was opened to migrant families in January 2024
Trump’s incoming border czar Tom Homan has been vocal in his calls to inundate sanctuary cities with more Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to root out illegal immigrants. Despite this, all 13 members of the Boston City Council approved a resolution reaffirming the city’s commitment to the Trust Act, which prevents the Boston Police Department’s involvement in civil immigration detainment.
“They enrich our culture, drive our economy and embody the diversity that makes our city so vibrant,” Louijeune said of individuals who benefit from TPS.
