'The most pressing thing is we are in the middle of a Cost of Living crisis'. Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer says this Conservative government can 'no longer run the country'. 📺 Sky 501, Virgin 602, Freeview 233 and YouTube

Starmer says Johnson should be banned from parliament - calls on Sunak to 'show leadership'

"They should be supported and I will support the committee, and I want the prime minister to support the committee because it's very important we know where the prime minister stands on this." He said Sunak should have refused the list outright given the outcome of the privileges committee probe:"That's what leadership is, that's what I would've done", but instead the"weak" PM just"gave in".

Mr Jasper also said he is"not surprised" that this policy is coming from a home secretary who is non-white:"We know that black faces in high places does not an anti-racist nirvana make, and so we see very many black people in senior positions within the Tory party saying things that run contrary to the opinion of most black people in the country.

"It doesn't make any sense in this context, except for the home secretary's determined war on the woke and some law and order sabre-rattling ahead of by-elections." He said he doesn't think Johnson backers will force a vote on the report, but said some may speak about elements they're unhappy with. He added:"There's no question that the prime minister wants to see an end to it, wants to see an end to the partygate debates."

The PM said he knows the"anxiety" that people feel, adding:"That's why the first priority I set out at the beginning of the year was to halve inflation, because that's the best and most important way that we can keep costs and interest rates down for people. He said there is support available for people, such as the mortgage guarantee scheme for first-time buyers.

He spoke to a reporter, and he was asked about today's debate and vote on the privileges committee report that found Boris Johnson deliberately misled parliament multiple times over partygate and was part of a"campaign of abuse and intimidation" against members of the committee. The levelling up secretary was reacting to the video, obtained by the Mirror, which showed people dancing and drinking at a gathering - ignoring strict social distancing rules imposed by the government at the height of the pandemic. At least 24 people were reportedly at the event, which took place at Conservative Party headquarters on 14 December 2020.

But the latest intervention shows the Home Office wants to see an increase in officers using the controversial powers. But Ms Braverman is"giving her full backing" to the policing method - with the Home Office highlighting in the 12 months to March 2022, 99 young people died due to knife crime, and 31 of those victims were black.Publicly-owned clean energy company will create thousands of jobs in Scotland, Starmer to say

The two leaders are expected to outline how Labour's Green Prosperity Plan will deliver three key benefits for Scotland:Doubling the number of jobs in low carbon sectors; We'll have full coverage of the speech from 10.30am here in the Politics Hub and on Sky News.
